Scientific-based
The way My Stop Buddy supports former smokers, originates from a graduation project at the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands. STIVORO (the Dutch Foundation for National Health and Smoking) and the Dutch Hart Foundation were actively involved during the graduation project. Experts provided a theoretical framework.
Thus, the base of the innovative method originated from known and proven theories on how to quit smoking. The six most important theories are:
1) Stages of Change (SOC) model - Prochaska and DiClemente
2) Classical Conditioning – Pavlov
3) Rational Emotive Therapy(RET) - Albert Ellis
4) The contradiction of apparently effects - Jan Geurtz
5) The process of a craving moment – W. de Gruyter
6) 21 days habit theory - Maxwell Maltz
The interaction and the understanding of the method are tested with a panel of smokers and non-smokers. In the future we will optimalize the method and the app by collecting users' feedback.
